Yatvegians, a Baltic tribe inhabiting the southwestern part of Belarus at the end of the first millennium A.D. They were first mentioned in Rusan chronicles in the year 983. From the 11th to the 13th century, Yatvegians fought with Polish and Rusan dukes and, later, with the German Knights. Partly exterminated in these wars, they were incorporated into the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and assimilated by the Slavs.
